Lady Elliot Island Location & Map

Located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliot Island is settled between Lady Musgrave Island and Fraser Island, around 80 kilometres north-east of Bundaberg in Queensland's north. Sitting within the Marine National Park 'Green Zone', Lady Elliot Island stretches over 40 hectares and is a UNESCO World Heritage Listed region. The island is also the nearest Great Barrier Reef Island to the capital city of Brisbane.

Getting To Lady Elliot Island

Lady Elliot Island is the only coral cay island within the Great Barrier Reef that supports an airstrip. Scenic flights from the mainland are offered for guests seeking a day trip or overnight stay on the island. Due to the distant location of the island, boat access is not possible. Flight duration is typically as follows:

From Bundaberg: 30 minutes (approx)

From Hervey Bay: 40 minutes (approx)

From Brisbane: 80 minutes (approx)

From the Gold Coast: 100 minutes (approx)

These regional towns and cities can be accessed by car, train, coach and air:

Car: Take the Bruce Highway to Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, approximately a 4 hour drive which will link with daily connecting flights to Lady Elliot Island.

Bus/Coach: Hop on an express coach departing daily from Brisbane to Bundaberg and Hervey Bay. This will link with connecting Seair flights to Lady Elliot Island.

Air: Virgin Australia, Qantas, Jetstar and Tigerair all operate daily flights to Brisbane from all major Australian cities.

Tilt Train: A daily Tilt Train runs between Brisbane and Bundaberg, a pleasant way of making the trip.
